A Probe Cover Isn't Enough: Why HLD Matters and the Role of UV-C in IVF and Women's Health

About This Webinar

A probe cover is an important barrier, but it does not replace cleaning and high-level disinfection (HLD) between patients. In a multicenter study of endovaginal and endorectal ultrasound examinations, pathogenic bacteria were detected on 3.4% of probes after cover removal, underscoring the importance of reprocessing. Drawing on CDC recommendations, AIUM and SMFM guidance, and a pelvic ultrasound practice parameter developed with ACOG, Mary Conidaris will explain why transvaginal probes require HLD and address common misconceptions.

The session will introduce UV-C light and Yuvee® technology, then explore automated UV-C HLD in busy IVF and women's health settings. Attendees will learn how Chronos®'s approximately 90-second HLD cycle, chemical-free disinfection process, and automated cycle records can support probe availability, staff workflows, and documentation. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of recommended practices and the role of UV-C in daily care.

What You'll Learn

  1. Know why a probe cover isn't enough: Understand why cleaning and HLD remain important even when a cover is used.
  2. Feel informed about recommended practices: Understand relevant CDC recommendations and guidance involving AIUM, SMFM, and ACOG for everyday probe reprocessing.
  3. Get familiar with UV-C HLD: Gain an approachable understanding of how UV-C light and Yuvee® technology work.
  4. See how UV-C fits a busy practice: Explore how a short HLD cycle, chemical-free disinfection, and automated records can support probe availability and staff workflows.
